Jay Calvert Cooper Fort Myers, Florida
Jay Calvert Cooper has been a Trial Lawyer in Florida since 1986. He started his career as a prosecutor in the Miami State Attorney's Office led by the Honorable Janet Reno. He graduated from misdemeanor crimes to capital felonies before leaving in 1988 to work for an insurance defense firm. At this early point in his career, Jay was defending against plaintiffs seeking money damages from car crashes and premises liability cases. He learned how to try civil personal injury and wrongful death cases from the defense perspective in the courts located in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties. In 1990 he moved to Fort Myers and joined a firm where he began trying cases for the plaintiffs. He has continued to represent plaintiffs seeking money damages for injury and wrongful death in both the State and Federal Courts and has participated in the trial of over 100 cases in his career, usually as lead trial counsel. He regularly appears in the State courts in Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties and in the Federal courts in Fort Myers, Tampa and Miami. His practice today is variegated and encompasses cases that arise from car crashes, medial negligence, nursing home abuse, cruise ship accidents and breach of insurance contracts. In addition to his Florida practice as a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer, Jay recently was certified in Florida as a Circuit and County Court Mediator. He was also admitted to practice law in the State of Tennessee in 2005. Contact Jay directly to discuss your case; there is little he hasn't seen in the world of personal injury litigation.
